Chris Barnaby

Chris has been with the Plant Variety Rights Office of the IP Office of New Zealand (IPONZ) since 1991 and is currently group manager and NZ representative for several UPOV bodies. He has extensive expertise in Plant Variety Protection, DUS testing, plant taxonomy and variety denominations. At UPOV, Chris is a past chairman of the UPOV Technical Working Party for Fruit Crops, the UPOV Technical Working Party for Ornamentals and Forest Trees and the UPOV Technical Committee (2008 – 2010) and is currently the nominated chair again for UPOV Technical Working Party for Fruit Crops. Other IPONZ and UPOV activity include advisor to East Asian PVP technical programs and training initiatives. In addition to his positions at IPONZ and UPOV activity, Chris acted as Editor for the International Plant Propagators’ Society, New Zealand Region. Chris is a member of the Royal New Zealand Institute of Horticulture and the International Plant Propagators’ Society. He holds a Master Degree in Horticultural Science with Honours (1990).

Hend Madhour, Ph.D.

Hend Madhour, Ph.D.

Hend Madhour started to work at UPOV on September 1, 2014.

Hend, a national of Tunisia, holds a Ph.D. degree in Information Systems from HEC University of Lausanne, Switzerland. She is an expert in knowledge management and Web technologies.

From 2010 to 2013 she worked at WIPO as an XML expert and elaborated the first version of WIPO ST.96: Processing of Industrial Property information using XML.

Her last position before moving to UPOV was Business Analyst and Project Manager at NayaMed SA (a Medtronic startup). She was responsible for setting up machine-to-machine communication between different systems within the company.

The responsibilities of Hend include managing and coordinating the development of UPOV IT projects. She is the IT focal point for the UPOV PRISMA PBR application tool.
