What will I learn?

The United States of America recently amended its Plant Variety Protection Act to extend plant variety protection to asexually reproduced plants. It plans to start accepting applications by December 2019.

This webinar overviews the US Intellectual Property protection system for plants and systematically describes the application, examination, and certificate issuance processes of the US Plant Variety Protection Office (PVPO).

It shows how to register for, and use, the PVPO electronic application system – an application management system that provides a seamless interface between customers and PVPO, from application submission and amendment, fee payment, application examination, to correspondence with PVPO staff.

It provides clarification and guidance for submitting a complete application, and explains the PVPO process of examining Distinctness, Uniformity, and Stability.

After attendance, breeders should find it fairly easy to submit an application and know what to expect for the examination and certificate issuance processes.

When?

Two sessions of the webinar will be held to enable participation in all time zones.

The sessions are scheduled in the US Eastern Standard Time (EST) to match the speaker’s time zone.
